Newcastle's Tyneside Cinema is delighted to announce that the North East’s favourite romantic film as voted for by the public is the epic 2004 love story The Notebook, which will be shown on the big screen at 22:30 on Friday 14 February. The film regularly appears in critics’ lists of the best romantic films ever made, and stars Ryan Gosling (Drive) and Rachel McAdams (Midnight in Paris) as a country boy and a young heiress who fall in love in South Carolina in the 1940s, but who are separated when her parents object to the match and their lives are torn apart by World War II. Everyone who attends the screening of The Notebook will receive complimentary luxury chocolates courtesy of Hotel Chocolat. A selection of special Valentine’s Day themed cocktails will also be available in the Tyneside Bar. This is the sixth year Tyneside Cinema has invited audiences to vote for their favourite romantic film for Valentine’s Day, and the second time film fans have chosen The Notebook, which also came top in 2009. This year it narrowly beat Noel Coward’s classic Brief Encounter, timeless French romance Amélie, and comedy drama We Bought A Zoo in the closely contested poll. Film fans looking for something a bit different this Valentine’s Day can enjoy a special preview of director Jim Jarmusch's unconventional romance Only Lovers Left Alive starring Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston, or catch the sci-fi love story Her which opens on Friday 14 February and is nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Jonny Tull, Cinema Programme Manager for Tyneside Cinema said, “A huge thank you to everyone who voted for their favourite romantic film at Tyneside Cinema for a sixth exciting year. We were overwhelmed by the number and variety of the nominations we received, and we’re really looking forward to our very special Valentine’s Day screening of The Notebook – with an extra treat of free chocolates from Hotel Chocolat for everyone who attends, too!” Tickets for Tyneside Cinema’s Valentine’s Day films The Notebook, Only Lovers Left Alive and Her are on sale now at the Tyneside Cinema Box Office, by phone on 0845 217 9909 or online from www.tynesidecinema.co.uk.
