Toon Times hits the back of the net Thousands flock to exhibition charting history of Newcastle United

Toon Times has scored an emphatic victory with the public which has seen people flock to Discovery Museum to see the black and white army’s history charted. The free exhibition, staged in partnership with Newcastle United Foundation, opened to the public on Saturday 8 February with over 4500 visitors passing through the exhibition doors over the weekend and getting involved in craft activities put on by staff from the foundation and museum. Visitors got the full Newcastle United player experience, with the entrance to the exhibition paying homage to the tunnel and crowd at St. James Park on matchdays. The dedicated fanzone is already teaming with fan’s memories as they are invited to pop their most memorable moment on a memory tag and hang it on the goal. Over the coming weeks a number of events and activities have been planned to run alongside the exhibition. Sunday 23 February will see the first of our pre-match family fun day where families will be able to enjoy some football inspired crafts and activities. These will run for the rest of the season when Newcastle United have a home game. There is also a talk with club historian Paul Joannou on Thursday 6 March as well as a walking tour on Saturday 15 March. Hazel Edwards, Discovery Museum Manager, said: We're delighted to be hosting the Toon Times exhibition and it's great to see the public respond so well in its first week. Newcastle United FC is integral to the history of the city and region and Discovery is the perfect place to showcase the club's fascinating history especially as the museum is less than 10 minutes walk from St. James'. Watch out for more events as the months unfold - there is something for everyone from families and schools groups to passionate supporters.’ Half term week at Discovery Museum will be full of activities to keep the children entertained whilst off school. Toon Times object handling sessions will take place throughout the week and there will also be some spring themed craft activities on Tuesday and Thursday ran by our learning team.
