Something in the Water – a celebration of North East talent at Newcastle Theatre Royal presented by Joe McElderry and hosted by Steph McGovern. Plus special guests Sonny Tennet, Jill Halfpenny, Si King and more to be announced.
On Sat 18 May, join us at the iconic Newcastle Theatre Royal for Something in the Water, a one-of-a-kind celebration of the extraordinary talent and humour that only England’s North East can offer. Presented by Joe McElderry, the event promises to be an unforgettable evening filled with live music, stellar performances, and heartwarming moments.
Something in the Water blends the charm of traditional cabaret with the energy of a live concert, set against the breathtaking backdrop of one of the UK’s most renowned theatres. This exhilarating revue show will showcase the brightest stars from the North East, bringing together a new generation of performers from the music charts, the stage, and the screen. Expect to see some of the region’s most exciting talents, united in their passion for music and entertainment.
Adding to the excitement of the evening, Steph McGovern, known for her engaging hosting style and sharp wit, will take on the role of the host, guiding the audience through the fast-paced show and bringing her own brand of northern charm to the stage. Together with Joe McElderry and powered by the sounds of Groovetrain, the North East’s powerhouse funk-soul supergroup, this event will be a night to remember.
Fresh off the back of his successful American Idol audition, we’re beyond excited to announce that Sonny Tennet will be taking to the stage for Something in the Water.
After wowing the judges – including Lionel Richie and securing a Golden Ticket to the American Idol Hollywood Shows – local lad Sonny is bringing his incredible talent and undeniable energy to Something in the Water for a night you won’t forget. This is your chance to see him live in action before he takes the world by storm!
Actress and Theatre Royal patron Jill Halfpenny will join the fun fresh from filming ITV’s second series of After the Floods, and Hairy Biker Si King will take a break from serving up food at his Sunderland restaurant Proper to make the occasion a real fest of North East talent.
Profit from the event will support Newcastle Theatre Royal’s Youth programme, TRY, which helps local young people learn performing arts skills in a supportive environment. - and to North East Music Opportunities (NEMO) CIC which provides music-making and music education opportunities for talented musicians from communities in our region.
