Ryman Stationery, based at intu Eldon Square, Newcastle, is helping to raise funds for Sport Relief

This year, the Theo Paphitis-owned stationer is selling four Sport Relief character pens, each of which costs £1, with at least 70p going to Sport Relief to help transform the lives of disadvantaged people here in the UK and across the world’s poorest communities. The walk, run, swim and cycle pens are now available to buy in Ryman stores. The popular high-street stationer – who is partnering with Sport Relief for the seventh successive year – has over 340,000 pens to sell over a 48 day period. In intu Eldon Square, Ryman’s will also be holding a fun event from 7-12 March, based on Blackettbridge opposite HMV, with sporting-based fundraising activities, in association with Eldon Leisure. The store will also be running a “Help us reach our goal” maze activity in the shopping centre which will give customers the chance to win a Polaroid Snap Instant Digital Camera. Kevin Cahill, Chief Executive of Comic Relief, said: “Ryman is once again providing much needed support to Sport Relief with the character pens. Buying one (or all) of the pens is a great way to donate to Sport Relief this year.” Ryman has raised a total of £2.4 million for the charity to date.
