Something in the Water (Sun 18 May 2025) is a celebration of the remarkable talent found in the North East. Hosted by Joe McElderry and powered by North East funk-soul supergroup Groovetrain, this fast-paced, live show will bring together a generation of the brightest northern stars. With proceeds donated to Newcastle Theatre Royal Trust, a registered charity, funding will help more children and young people find their inner star through music and the performing arts.
Direct from a sell-out run at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Last Laugh (Tue 24 – Sat 28 Jun 2025) is a brand-new laugh-a-minute play which reimagines the lives of three of Britain’s all-time greatest comedy heroes – Tommy Cooper, Eric Morecambe and Bob Monkhouse. Filled with great gags and touching stories, this production is nostalgic, poignant and the ultimate comedy night out.
Master storyteller Matthew Bourne has produced some of the most successful dance theatre productions of the last 30 years. His award-winning list of productions includes Swan Lake, The Red Shoes and Edward Scissorhands. Set inside a tavern where lonely-hearts gather to play out their lovelorn affairs of the heart - The Midnight Bell (Tue 8 – Sat 12 Jul 2025) is a bitter portrayal of frustration, betrayal and redemption, heading to Newcastle for the first time in 2025.
The National Theatre’s global smash-hit production of War Horse is coming to Newcastle Theatre Royal in 2025 (Wed 10 – Sat 20 Sep 2025). The unforgettable theatrical event, based on Michael Morpurgo’s beloved novel, tells the remarkable story of a young boy called Albert and his horse Joey, set against the backdrop of the First World War. This powerfully moving drama is a show of phenomenal inventiveness, filled with stirring music and songs and featuring ground-breaking puppetry by Handspring Puppet Company.
Michael Harrison, in association with Cameron Mackintosh, presents a new production of Miss Saigon (Sat 4 – Sat 25 Oct 2025) as Boublil and Schönberg’s legendary musical is reborn. Opening at Newcastle Theatre Royal, ahead of a major UK tour, the heat is on, this is an epic production not to be missed.
Here & Now (Tue 28 Oct – Sun 2 Nov 2025) is a hilarious and heart-warming new musical based on the songs of pop phenomenon Steps. Set in a supermarket and featuring top hits, including Stomp, 5,6,7,8, and Last Thing On My Mind, you’ll be dancing in the aisles. The only Tragedy would be to miss it!
Adrenaline-filled play 2:22 A Ghost Story (Mon 13 – Sat 18 Apr 2026) is returning to Newcastle, where belief and scepticism clash, for a night of daring to discover the truth. Winner of Best New Play at the WhatsOnStage Awards, this edge-of-your-seat, supernatural thriller has featured a host of acclaimed star performances.
Nearly 50 years since it first hit television screens, Tourquay’s most chaotic hotel, Fawlty Towers (Tue 30 Jun – Sat 4 Jul 2026), is coming to the stage in Newcastle! Iconic characters, Sybil, Major and the inimitable Basil are set to return in this comedy classic featuring scenes from the sitcom’s unforgettable twelve episodes.
