In its first ten years, Sage Gateshead has made a massive financial contribution to the North East

As Sage Gateshead celebrates its tenth birthday, new figures show what a massive financial contribution the now-iconic Tyneside music venue has made to the North East of England.
Since opening its doors on 17th December 2014, the work of Sage Gateshead has made a total economic contribution to the region of £283 million.
This figure is almost three times (2.8x) the combined capital cost of Sage Gateshead’s building, and all of the core revenue invested in the venue by the public sector over the last ten years. These figures are laid out in ‘The Sage Gateshead. Economic Contribution: 10 Year Anniversary’, by ERS Research & Consultancy.
‘When we began this journey, one thing was extremely important to us – that we would ‘irrigate, not drain’ the local economy’, says Anthony Sargent, General Director of Sage Gateshead.
‘I am extremely happy now to have the evidence to show we’ve done just that. To have provided the region with jobs, opportunities and income on this scale (on top of all our artistic, educational and social contributions) is something we’re immensely proud of. Tyneside has really changed over the past decade Thanks to everyone who comes to our concerts and education projects, and our hugely committed supporters at Gateshead council and Arts Council England, we’ve been very proud to play our part in that incredible process’.
