Huge Free Classical Choir Concert Coming to Newcastle Cathedral

A huge FREE classical choir concert is coming to Newcastle Cathedral on Sunday 6th April 2025 at 7.30pm. Set to be one of the biggest choir concerts to ever be held in the city, multi-award winning opera singer Abigail Harris is bringing her 150 strong choir to Newcastle for a very special performance.
After multiple sell-out shows last year, it’s time for Newcastle Cathedral to play host to the stunning showcase that will feature a breathtaking performance, from well-known classical compositions by Vivaldi and Fauré, to rousing choruses from Les Misérables — an incredible free event and one not to miss!
The unique event from the Hertfordshire based group is coming to the North East prior to huge shows in iconic venues in Paris. Blowing audiences away internationally, Abigail Harris’ Classical Chorus have received countless 5 star reviews and are excited to be coming to Newcastle.
Abigail Harris is a renowned opera singer who graduated with high honours from the Royal Academy of Music. Having performed as a soprano soloist with various opera companies and in acclaimed venues such as St Martin–in–the-fields, The Royal Albert Hall and The Wigmore Hall, she has an eye watering portfolio and has appeared on Channel 4’s TV series Operatunity.
Abigail said: “It’s a delight to be hosting this amazing free event at such a majestic cathedral in a wonderful, vibrant city. We have prepared a wonderfully varied programme, including Carmen’s ‘Toreador’s Song’ and the beautiful ‘Barcarolle’ duet from Tales of Hoffmann. It excites me to be coming to this warm, receptive city for the Classical Chorus project and we’re looking forward to blowing the audience away.”
She continued: “The Classical Chorus concerts are always very special and the performances give people goosebumps. I’m looking forward to giving the people of Newcastle an evening to remember. With so many voices coming together to recreate nostalgic songs, it will be a wonderful experience, and it’s FREE!”
Classical Chorus is a non-auditioned choir based in St. Albans Hertfordshire, exploring singing technique, performance skills, ear training and score reading in an encouraging atmosphere. Performance and social opportunities include charity concerts, European tours and theatre trips — with performances in many prestigious locations including Saint Mark’s Basilica Venice, Chester Cathedral, Barcelona Auditorium, St Albans Roman Theatre, Trafalgar Square and The Menin Gate.
Abigail said: “It’s a pleasure and honour to bring people together and empower them through the art of classical singing. There have been so many memories over the years such as hosting a concert at Shendish Manor with world renowned operatic tenor, Alexander James Edwards, where we performed Nessun Dorma. It’s also wonderful to give people the gift of music for free, as we’re doing with this show.”
Free tickets to the stunning showcase at the majestic Newcastle Cathedral are anticipated to be snapped up quickly, so securing yours early is recommended. The concert promises to be a spine-tingling experience that all lovers of music will enjoy — not just classical, opera and choir fanatics.
