Eldon Square Ramps up Community Support for Nufc as Hopes Build for First Major Trophy in over Half a Century

Newcastle’s popular shopping and dining destination, Eldon Square, has put its support behind Newcastle United Football Club ahead of the Magpies’ first chance at winning a major domestic trophy since 1955.

Eldon Square has unveiled a host of in-centre celebrations to mark Newcastle United’s momentous clash with Manchester United, in a match that will decide the winner of English Football League, Carabao Cup and will see the club’s first attempt at major silverware in almost 70 years.

From Monday 20th February, a black and white flower wall, balloon arch and illuminated ‘NUFC’ letters will be installed on Blackett Bridge, encouraging visitors to pose for pictures to mark the occasion. To add to the atmosphere, Newcastle United flags, provided by Wor Flags, will be draped around the centre and messages of support will be displayed throughout Eldon Square via the digital advertising screens.

On the day of the game itself (26th February), football fans will be able to get into the spirit by getting their face painted for a small charitable donation to the Newcastle United Foundation. A selection of restaurants will also be providing exclusive offers including Frankine and Benny's, George's Kitchen, The Real Greek and Chaophraya.

Naomi Osborne, Acting Marketing Manager at Eldon Square, commented: “Newcastle United is the beating heart of our city. After a number of challenging years for the fans we are thrilled to be able to support the club and its supporters on this momentous occasion. We recognise how important this bond is for all associated with the club and are delighted to be able to play a part in commemorating the day with the north east community.”

Football fans are encouraged to head down to the centre, soak up the atmosphere, and share a photo on social media using the handle @eldonsqncl.
