City Museums Support Victory Celebrations with Jackie Milburn NUFC Shirt Display, Flags and Family Activities

Newcastle’s city museums are joining in the Newcastle United (NUFC) Carabao Cup victory celebrations this Saturday 29 March 2025, with lots to do for fans and local families as they prepare for the big event.
A new mini-exhibition of NUFC’s cup success past and present at Discovery Museum will include a 1951-52 shirt belonging to local hero Jackie Milburn who fired the Toon to FA Cup glory in 1951, 1952 and 1955 as well as other memorabilia from cup wins in 1955, 1969 and 2025.
Meanwhile at the Great North Museum: Hancock, on the route of the victory parade bus, a flag will be flying on loan from fan group Wor Flags. Visitors can take part in a special NUFC themed museum trail and spot magpies, seahorses, Newcastle United kit and other Toon-themed surprises.
At both museums there will also be free drop-in Toon themed family crafts for younger visitors to join in the fun ahead of the big parade.
Keith Merrin, Director of North East Museums, said:
“This is a truly historical event for the club, the city and of course supporters round the world. As custodians of so much of the region’s history we are delighted to celebrate this momentous occasion and add to what should be a special weekend.
“Thank you to Wor Flags for loaning us a flag to display at Great North Museum: Hancock, and one to display at Discovery Museum alongside the shirt of the late, great Jackie Milburn.”
The display of NUFC historical memorabilia at Discovery Museum will run from 28 March – 10 April 2025. The star object is Jackie Milburn’s football shirt which he wore during NUFC’s 1951-52 season.
Other objects on display at Discovery Museum will be a 1969 Fairs Cup final first leg programme, a 2025 Carabao Cup Final replica shirt and a flag from Wor Flags from a competition for local schoolchildren to design a flag to take to Wembley.
Discovery Museum is open weekdays 10am – 4pm and weekends 11am – 4pm and has free entry. Great North Museum: Hancock is free to the public and open 10am – 5pm on weekdays, 10am – 4pm on Saturdays and 11am – 4pm on Sundays
