Byron brings proper hamburgers to Newcastle

Byron, the British group of hamburger restaurants, opens its first-ever restaurant in Newcastle today, on Grey Street, in its mission to bring proper hamburgers to the Toon. To celebrate the new opening, Newcastle-based Byron Burger Club members are invited to a celebratory launch night on Tuesday 29th September - with hamburgers and craft beer sampling on the house. To become a member and join the celebrations, visit www.byronhamburgers.com/burgerclub.* Founded by Tom Byng in 2007, Byron serve hamburgers the way they should be: made with British beef, ground fresh, cooked medium and served in a soft, squishy bun with minimum fuss. The short and simple menu includes all of the favourites – Classic, Cheese, Chilli, Smoky and the signature Byron – plus a regularly-changing special. The Grey Street restaurant is one of the largest and grandest in the Byron family, and Byron’s designers and craftspeople have been hard at work for months transforming the turn-of-the century building. Every Byron has a unique design, and in Newcastle, the bespoke interiors take their inspiration from the building’s carefully-preserved historical features, including art nouveau stained glass and the dramatic central staircase. Byron Grey Street is also the first Byron to feature a full bar alongside the restaurant. Here, guests can enjoy draft beer, bourbons, cocktails and hard shakes, with or without a hamburger on the side, in a setting inspired by the bootleg glamour of 1920’s America, particularly New York’s famous Cotton Club. Customers can also enjoy their proper hamburgers paired with Byron’s carefully-chosen selection of craft beers in the atmospheric central restaurant, with its vintage furniture, glamourous lighting and sumptuous leather seating. Tom Byng, Byron’s founder, says: “I’m really excited to be opening in such a grand setting at the heart of this dynamic city. It’s clear that there’s a real appetite for proper hamburgers here, and I can’t wait to welcome customers to our newest restaurant over the coming weeks.”
