£1M Gentleman's Club Opens its Doors in Newcastle

A leading leisure group has invested £1m in creating a lavish gentlemen’s club in the heart of Newcastle.

Whiskey Down has just opened it doors in the city’s Bigg Market on the first floor above Stein Bier Keller and is the latest in the chain to be launched by Tokyo Industries, following on from the success of the clubs in Leeds and Manchester.

The two year project has seen the building transformed and now has elegant wood paneling, high back leather sofas and chairs and glass cabinets showcasing the huge variety of specially curated whiskeys which will be on offer.

The club also has a number of discreet and private rooms where lap dances will be available, with a main area where girls will also perform.

Tokyo Industries – which owns around 40 clubs and bars around the country – opened its first Whiskey Down in Leeds in 2017, followed by Manchester two years later.

Rob Halliday, of Tokyo Industries, said Whiskey Down was designed to replicate the smart members’ only gentlemen’s clubs frequented by the rich and privileged, with the emphasis on creating a sophisticated setting.

Whiskey Down is really sumptuous and has been created to make anyone who visits feel special,” he said.

Everyone is welcome – men and women – and people can come in just to enjoy the surroundings or try our vast selection of whiskeys and gins, they don’t have to have a lap dance.

It's a club which has offers a real upmarket twist on the classic gentlemen’s club experience, which also includes dancer-free areas for guests who just want to enjoy a quieter and relaxed experience.

This is about taking gentlemen’s clubs of this kind to the next level and is something totally new for Newcastle.”

Whiskey Down is open Sunday to Thursday, from 9pm to 3am and on Fridays and Saturdays from 7pm.

A champagne lounge has also been created which can be booked for private hire and the hope is the venue will also be used for corporate events or by visiting celebrities coming to the city.

Entry is £10, with a private dance costing from £25. A membership scheme will also be introduced in the near future.

We are really looking forward to people seeing just how we have transformed this building into something amazing,” said Rob.

The owners have sourced whiskeys from around the globe, including rare American bourbons, top Irish whiskeys and premium Japanese malts as well as other top end spirits and Champagnes.
