Northern Pride
NE1 is proud to support Pride Festival, the North East’s biggest celebration of the region’s LGBTQ+ community organised annually by locally based charity Northern Pride.
Pride Festival kicks off each year with a huge march in the city centre that winds its way down Northumberland Street, passing the iconic Grey’s Monument along the way, as Newcastle became awash with colours of the rainbow. The Pride march was attended by over 25,000 people in 2022, all showing up in support of both the city and the wider region’s LGBTQ+ community.
Post-march, the Pride festivities move to Newcastle’s Town Moor for two full days of top-class entertainment in the form of cabaret performances and big-name music acts who in the recent past have included the likes of former Spice Girl Mel C, American Idol star Todrick Hall and local talent Joe McElderry. There’s more fun to be had at the Pride Festival site too with family-friendly fairground rides, food and drink vendors and a Community Village that welcomes all generations of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies with a range of activities, services and further entertainment.
