Mela in the City kickstarts the Newcastle Mela festivities with fun performances and activities in the city centre
Each August, NE1 works in partnership with Newcastle Asian Arts & Music (NAAM) to kickstart their Newcastle Mela festivities with Mela in the City - a fantastic free day of events and activities taking place in the shadow of Grey's Monument that celebrate South Asian cultures.
Featuring everything from henna artists and stilt walkers to dancers and carnival artists - plus music, workshops and more - Mela in the City is a fantastic family-friendly event and the perfect way to get a taste of the amazing Newcastle Mela festival that happens over the August bank holiday weekend.
