Summer in the City
Summer in the City is a packed programme of fun, free events and activities taking place in Newcastle city centre over the summer months.
NE1’s Summer in the City is an epic, six-week-long programme offering free activities throughout the summer holidays on and around Newcastle’s iconic Quayside.
The varied programme offers something fun for everybody, from kids and families to culture vultures and daredevils, with events and activities delivered by trusted local businesses. In 2023, we worked with 17 local businesses to put on 180 activities attended by more than 5000 people and this year we’ve got an even more exciting summer of activities planned.
Our popular storytelling sessions, Tales on the Tyne, will return alongside dance classes hosted by Dance City and Let’s Party Kids’ Clubs – all perfect for keeping little ones entertained for free during the school holidays.
For health and fitness enthusiasts, there are yoga sessions and exercise classes, while lovers of local history and culture won’t want to miss out on fascinating walking tours delivered by Newcastle City Guides or the return of Music by the Marina, our mini, day-long music festival featuring top class acts from the region and beyond.
We’ve got several exciting new additions coming in 2024 too, including a water-based activity that thrill-seekers will love and a day full of fun on the Quayside for our four-legged friends.
