Everything You Need To Know About... Dine On The Tyne

Last updated:

If Christmas is all about memorable experiences with family and friends, you’d be hard-pressed to find something more memorable and special in the city than Dine On The Tyne, which returns for another year of fine dining on the Quayside. Strap in as we find out everything there is to know about this magical experience...

What Is Dine On The Tyne?

Dine On The Tyne is a unique dining experience hosted by The Dining Society. Located right on the Quayside, with its great views and atmosphere, each group of guests will be in their own custom-made transparent pod! So you’re simultaneously immersed in the local atmosphere but still warm and cosy, and you’ll be enjoying a high-class dining experience too. The pods even offer a personal speaker system for you to choose the music to best suit your group’s vibe. The sessions last for ninety minutes, so there’s plenty of time to enjoy the meal, have some drinks and soak up the atmosphere with your favourite people.

Where is it?

The Dine On The Tyne pods are situated on the Quayside just by the Law Courts, on the site of the Urban Garden, looking out towards the BALTIC, Sage Gateshead, and Millennium Bridge.

When is it taking place?

Dine On The Tyne starts on Thursday 1st December and will be running until New Year’s Eve every Thursday to Sunday. The sessions – which last ninety minutes – are at 13.30, 15.15, 17.00, 18.45 and the last at 20.30. On New Year’s Eve, the last session is still at 20.30 but guests are welcome to stay until after midnight and enjoy the Laser Light City display.

How many people can I bring?

The pods are bookable for groups of 6, 8, or 10. In certain circumstances, smaller groups could be accommodated but you'd need to contact The Dining Society. Kids are welcome, and toddlers are free (there are even high chairs available).

What sort of food is going to be served?

Whereas in previous years, Dine On The Tyne has offered a traditional Christmas dinner, they’ve decided to change things up for 2022. They’re teaming up with Fusion Restaurant from Ramside Hall Hotel to curate an Asian-themed menu. This means a flavourful offering with a range of Asian starters, mains and desserts, alongside vegan and gluten-free options. So you might be tucking into dim sum, massaman sweet potato curry, and a caramel panna cotta with yuzu & lychees!

How much does Dine On The Tyne cost?

For bookings of six, eight or ten people, the cost is £45 per person. This includes the three-course meal and ninety minutes in the pod. Drinks aren’t included but there will be a full bar and a special wine and champagne menu. On New Year’s Eve, the cost rises slightly to £50pp. There’s a £100 deposit to be paid when you book, but this will be deducted from your bill at the end of the evening.

Did that answer all your questions and leave you racing to get booked up?! Dine On The Tyne really is a unique and unusual experience and one that’s certain to make this Christmas a memorable one. There’s no better way to feel a part of the city – the iconic views of the Tyne and the bridges, the hustle and bustle of the Quayside during the festive season – but still be warm and snug as well as dining on some really great food.
